    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Amigos Volunteers in Education and Services (AVES),
    1-3  Incorporated, is marking its sixth year of service to the citizens
    1-4  of Houston, and the Texas Senate is pleased to recognize the
    1-5  important work that the organization has done for the Hispanic
    1-6  community; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Founded in 1988, Amigos Volunteers in Education and
    1-8  Services is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide
    1-9  HIV/AIDS prevention education, outreach, and direct client services
   1-10  to the Houston Hispanic community; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Since its establishment, the agency has grown to
   1-12  become the principal Hispanic agency in Houston to offer a wide
   1-13  range of services to people with AIDS and their loved ones; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Its mission is to reach out to Hispanics at risk or
   1-15  infected with HIV/AIDS by acknowledging and eliminating barriers
   1-16  to appropriate care often caused by language and cultural
   1-17  differences; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Services provided by AVES are primarily for
   1-19  Hispanics who have been unable to avail themselves of services in
   1-20  their community because of these differences, but are available
   1-21  for all affected persons; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Amigos Volunteers in Education and Services,
   1-23  Incorporated, has implemented comprehensive programs dealing with
    2-1  all aspects of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases as
    2-2  well as tuberculosis; through education, the organization hopes to
    2-3  end the spread of these diseases and improve the health of all
    2-4  people both now and in the future; now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  74th Legislature, hereby recognize the vital humanitarian work
    2-7  of the Amigos Volunteers in Education and Services, Incorporated,
    2-8  and express its gratitude to these dedicated caregivers for their
    2-9  efforts to provide the best possible care for their clients; and,
   2-10  be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  AVES as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
