    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           Ann Whiddon Mann
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
    1-6  of Big Spring in mourning the loss of Ann Whiddon Mann who died
    1-7  December 23, 1994, at the age of 57; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Ann Whiddon was born February 13, 1937, in
    1-9  Nashville, Tennessee; she was a graduate of Peru State University
   1-10  in Nebraska and completed her master's degree in education and her
   1-11  doctorate in psychology at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln;
   1-12  and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Dr. Mann was dedicated to her work at Big Spring
   1-14  State Hospital where she served for 17 years as Chief Psychologist
   1-15  and for three years as Director of Treatment Services; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, An expert in the field of psychosocial programs,
   1-17  Dr. Mann served as chairperson of the Statewide Psychosocial
   1-18  Committee and instigated the development of a Statewide
   1-19  Psychosocial Symposium; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Her contributions to Big Spring State Hospital
   1-21  were innumerable, and she devoted her life to its patients and its
   1-22  programs; it was due largely to her hard work and persistence that
   1-23  Big Spring State Hospital achieved full compliance with federal
    2-1  court guidelines and full accreditation over the years; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Remarkably courageous and inspiring, Ann Mann was
    2-3  an exemplary woman who fought a longtime battle against grave
    2-4  physical infirmities, and her valor in the face of her illness
    2-5  touched the lives of many; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, In spite of her many difficulties, she consistently
    2-7  manifested uncommon concern for others and was sensitive, generous,
    2-8  caring, and befriending; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, She was strong, honest, and forthright, and she was
   2-10  a true friend and confidante to those closest to her and a consoler
   2-11  and mentor to her colleagues and her patients; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, Ann Mann was intelligent, warmhearted, wise, and
   2-13  compassionate, and her life will continue to live on in the hearts
   2-14  and minds of all who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-16  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-17  bereaved family of Ann Whiddon Mann:  her husband, W. A. Mann; her
   2-18  daughter, Debbie Schroeder; her stepdaughter, Priscilla Mann-Louis;
   2-19  and her four grandchildren; and, be it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-21  members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-22  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-23  in memory of Ann Whiddon Mann.
