    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           Dwain E. Leonard
    1-5        WHEREAS, The citizens of Big Spring mourned the passing of
    1-6  well-known pharmacist, rancher, and civic leader Dwain E. Leonard,
    1-7  who died January 16, 1995, at the age of 77; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, The esteemed gentleman will be deeply missed by his
    1-9  family and friends and will be remembered with gratitude for his
   1-10  dedication to his beloved community; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, A native of Bronte, Texas, Dwain Leonard was born
   1-12  on November 15, 1917; he graduated from Bronte High School and
   1-13  attended West Texas State Teachers College before graduating from
   1-14  The University of Texas School of Pharmacy in 1939; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Mr. Leonard accepted a position in Big Spring in 1940
   1-16  working for Cunningham and Phillips Drug Store in the Petroleum
   1-17  Building and opened his first pharmacy in 1942 in the State National
   1-18  Bank building; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, By 1944 the pharmacy had moved to its present
   1-20  location and, under Mr. Leonard's careful guidance, eventually
   1-21  expanded to include a corporation of family pharmacies, Leonard's
   1-22  Prescription Pharmacy, Professional Pharmacy, and Leonard's Clinic
   1-23  Pharmacy; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, After he retired in 1991, Mr. Leonard continued to be
    2-2  involved in his business and in his farming and ranching interests
    2-3  in Howard and Coke counties as well as community affairs; he was a
    2-4  member of the Knights of Pythias and maintained an active interest
    2-5  in the Pythias Orphanage in Weatherford; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, A Christian who lived his faith in his daily life,
    2-7  Mr. Leonard was a charter member of College Baptist Church and
    2-8  attended the Businessman's Sunday School Class; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, He leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment that
   2-10  will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him;
   2-11  now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family of
   2-14  Dwain E. Leonard:  his wife, Jean; his daughters, Linda Walker and
   2-15  Paula Duncan; his four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren;
   2-16  his brother, Woodrow Leonard; his former wife, Louise Leonard; and
   2-17  his three stepchildren and their families; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
   2-19  family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
   2-20  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-21  Dwain E. Leonard.
