By: Barrientos S.R. No. 159 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, It is a distinct honor for the Texas Senate to 1-3 commend Robert G. Farris of Harlingen for his notable service 1-4 to the citizens of Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Recognized throughout the Rio Grande Valley for 1-6 his contributions to the economic development of the area, 1-7 Robert Farris has been President of the Valley Transit Company 1-8 in Harlingen since 1963; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A past Director of the Texas Tourist Council, 1-10 Mr. Farris has also served as Director of the National Bus Traffic 1-11 Association and the Texas Motor Transportation Association; and 1-12 WHEREAS, His leadership as Director of the Texas State Bank 1-13 of Harlingen and of the Texas Regional Bancshares of McAllen has 1-14 been invaluable; he is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who 1-15 in Finance and Industry; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Blessed with natural abilities, the esteemed 1-17 businessman has shared his expertise with others and devoted his 1-18 energies to numerous civic activities; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. Farris has served as President of the 1-20 Harlingen Chamber of Commerce, the Lower Rio Grande Valley Chamber 1-21 of Commerce, and the Harlingen Industrial Foundation, Incorporated; 1-22 he has worked as Crusade Chairman of the American Cancer Society 1-23 and as Vice-President of the Rio Grande Council Boy Scouts of 2-1 America; and 2-2 WHEREAS, His generosity, helpfulness, and commitment to the 2-3 citizens of the Rio Grande Valley have endeared him to people from 2-4 all walks of life; countless Texans have benefitted from his 2-5 benevolence; and 2-6 WHEREAS, He is a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and a 2-7 graduate of New Mexico Military Institute and The University of Texas 2-8 where he earned his bachelor of business administration degree; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Robert Farris served his country with valor in 2-10 the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 with the Third Infantry 2-11 Division in Korea; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career, Robert Farris 2-13 has been supported by the love and companionship of his wife, Betty, 2-14 and their sons, Robert, William, and J. Brad; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 74th Legislature, hereby express its sincere gratitude to 2-17 Robert G.
