1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
1-3 recognize Don C. King of Fort Worth who is retiring as the
1-4 secretary-general manager of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle
1-5 Raisers Association after 33 consecutive years of exemplary
1-6 service; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Under Mr. King's splendid management, the
1-8 association became a dynamic, up-to-date organization that
1-9 served its members efficiently and beneficially; membership
1-10 increased and the association's political influence grew both
1-11 in Texas and Washington, D.C.; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Mr. King's vision and conservative stewardship
1-13 brought the organization added recognition and prestige based
1-14 on its honesty, fairness, and devotion to its members; and
1-15 WHEREAS, A native of Jack County, Texas, Don King was born
1-16 on January 28, 1929, into a pioneer ranching family and grew up on
1-17 the family ranch near Jermyn that he continues to operate; after
1-18 attending public schools in Jacksboro, he graduated from Texas Tech
1-19 University College of Agriculture in 1949; and
1-20 WHEREAS, He was employed by the Texas and Southwestern Cattle
1-21 Raisers Association in 1962 as a field inspector in Graham where
1-22 he was stationed until 1965 when he was transferred to Fort Worth
1-23 as a special assistant in the headquarters office; and
2-1 WHEREAS, After the death of his predecessor, Don was appointed
2-2 to the top administrative position and began his highly successful
2-3 tenure that has been marked by loyalty, devotion, and significant
2-4 accomplishments to the benefit of the entire cattle industry; and
2-5 WHEREAS, In addition to his overall responsibilities for the
2-6 association's activities, the esteemed gentleman has served on
2-7 various law enforcement, agriculture, and livestock boards and
2-8 committees; and
2-9 WHEREAS, Commissioned a special Texas Ranger by the Texas
2-10 Department of Public Safety in 1962, Don King is also Chief Cattle
2-11 Ranger in the State of Oklahoma for the Oklahoma State Bureau of
2-12 Investigation; and
2-13 WHEREAS, Don King has been the worthy recipient of numerous
2-14 honors throughout his remarkable career; he was chosen for the
2-15 Headliner of the Year Award in 1994 by the Livestock Publications
2-16 Council and was presented the President's Award in 1993 from the
2-17 Sheriffs Association of Texas; now, therefore, be it
2-18 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-19 74th Legislature, hereby express its deepest appreciation to
2-20 Don C. King for his exceptional service to the citizens of Texas
2-21 and extend best wishes to him for a most rewarding and enjoyable
2-22 retirement; and, be it further
2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
2-24 as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate.
