No. 165 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing Southwest Airlines, the seventh largest air carrier in 1-4 the nation, on the grand occasion of its 20th anniversary of service 1-5 to the Rio Grande Valley which is being celebrated February 11, 1995; 1-6 and 1-7 WHEREAS, By using Valley International Airport at Harlingen 1-8 as its fourth destination for frequent, inexpensive, daily flights, 1-9 Southwest Airlines opened the Rio Grande Valley, making it accessible 1-10 to the rest of the state and to the country; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In the last 20 years, Southwest Airlines has increased 1-12 its service in the area from 21 weekly departures in 1975 to 84 1-13 weekly departures in 1995; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Today, Southwest Airlines is the Valley's top carrier 1-15 each month in total boardings and has boarded more than 5 and 1/2 1-16 million customers since it began service in the area; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Southwest Airlines has employed hundreds of local 1-18 residents over the years and has served the needs of business 1-19 people, visitors, and many citizens whose homes are located in 1-20 Harlingen and the Rio Grande Valley; and 1-21 WHEREAS, To promote the growth of commerce and the development 1-22 of Valley International Airport, Southwest Airlines has worked 1-23 closely with the many respected and dedicated civic leaders in 2-1 the Rio Grande Valley and Harlingen; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-3 74th Legislature, hereby commend Southwest Airlines for its highly 2-4 successful service to the Rio Grande Valley and extend best wishes 2-5 to the company on the occasion of this 20th anniversary; and, be it 2-6 further 2-7 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-8 airline as an expression of regard from the Texas Senate. 2-9 ______________________________________ 2-10 President of the Senate 2-11 I hereby certify that the above 2-12 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-13 on February 7, 1995. 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 Secretary of the Senate 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 Member, Texas Senate
