    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
    1-3  in recognizing Willie Mae Kirk on her recent selection for the
    1-4  Volunteer of the Year Award by the Austin Area Urban League; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Formerly a teacher with the Austin Independent
    1-6  School District, Willie Mae Kirk is well known for her longtime
    1-7  community service in the Austin area; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A model of integrity, compassion, and generosity,
    1-9  Miss Kirk exhibits an enthusiasm for hard work that is inspiring
   1-10  to all who know her; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Active in many community projects, she was
   1-12  instrumental in the organization of a protest of a segregated
   1-13  skating rink and assisted in the organization of the Citizen's
   1-14  Dispute Settlement Commission for Travis County; she is currently
   1-15  serving on the Board of Directors for the Austin Area Urban League;
   1-16  and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Accolades for her diligence and exceptional
   1-18  community leadership include induction into the African-American
   1-19  Women's Hall of Fame, the 1993 Black Caucus Outstanding Texan Award,
   1-20  and Carver Library's Martin L. King Award; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Willie Mae Kirk's concern for others is legendary,
   1-22  and she has been a source of strength to many; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, A distinguished and exemplary lady, Miss Kirk is a
    2-1  respected humanitarian whose worthy projects reflect her dedication
    2-2  and commitment to her fellowman; now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-4  74th Legislature, hereby commend Willie Mae Kirk for her countless
    2-5  contributions to her community and state and extend congratulations
    2-6  to her for this well-deserved award; and, be it further
    2-7        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
    2-8  as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
