No. 181 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Roberta Watters is retiring on February 28, 1995, 1-3 as County Extension Agent in Taylor County after more than 31 years 1-4 with the Agricultural Extension Service, and the Texas Senate is 1-5 proud to recognize her for her exceptional contributions to the 1-6 citizens of Texas; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career, Roberta Watters 1-8 has faithfully and diligently performed her duties with expert care 1-9 while earning the admiration and respect of those who worked with 1-10 her; and 1-11 WHEREAS, She has brought integrity and professionalism to her 1-12 position and has been recognized nationally for her accomplishments; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, During her tenure as County Extension Agent, 1-15 Roberta Watters has hired and trained 18 secretaries and trained 19 1-16 assistant agents while completing almost 26 years in Taylor County 1-17 and more than 31 years in extension service; and 1-18 WHEREAS, For her exceptional work, Roberta Watters has been 1-19 the recipient of numerous honors including the Texas Superior 1-20 Service Award from TAEX, the Meritorious Service Award from Epsilon 1-21 Sigma Phi, the Distinguished Service Award from the Soil and Water 1-22 Conservation District, and the National Distinguished Service Award 1-23 from her agent's association; and 2-1 WHEREAS, A Certified Home Economist from the American Home 2-2 Economics Association, Roberta has served on the board of the 2-3 Texas Home Economics Association; and 2-4 WHEREAS, She has also donated her time and abilities to 2-5 her community as treasurer and parliamentarian of the Abilene Woman's 2-6 Club, as a founding board member and vice-president of the Food Bank 2-7 of Abilene, on the Advisory Committee of Head Start, and as a member 2-8 of the Abilene Children First Committee; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Roberta Watters's interest in home economics and 2-10 extension service began at a very early age; when she was nine years 2-11 old her main interest was clothing and she joined the 4-H Club in 2-12 San Saba County; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Her interests broadened as she became involved in 2-14 other projects as a 4-H member in McCulloch and Tom Green counties 2-15 and won several awards for her accomplishments; she was awarded a 2-16 Carr Scholarship for four semesters at San Angelo Junior College and 2-17 continued her college education on scholarships at Texas Woman's 2-18 University where she graduated with honors in 1963 with a bachelor 2-19 of science degree before beginning her career with the Agricultural 2-20 Extension Service; and 2-21 WHEREAS, Roberta Watters is a sterling example of one who 2-22 has achieved her goals through hard work and determination; now, 2-23 therefore, be it 2-24 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-25 74th Legislature, hereby express its appreciation to Roberta Watters 3-1 for her outstanding contributions to Taylor County and extend best 3-2 wishes to her for a most rewarding retirement; and, be it further 3-3 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-4 this distinguished Texan as a token of the high regard of the 3-5 Texas Senate. 3-6 ______________________________________ 3-7 President of the Senate 3-8 I hereby certify that the above 3-9 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-10 on February 9, 1995. 3-11 ______________________________________ 3-12 Secretary of the Senate 3-13 ______________________________________ 3-14 Member, Texas Senate
