S.R. No. 188 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to join the 1-3 citizens of Collin County in a joyous celebration of Collin County 1-4 Day on February 22, 1995; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Named for pioneer settler Collin McKinney, who 1-6 built a log cabin near present-day Anna in 1842, Collin County was 1-7 created from Fannin County and organized in 1846; originally Caddo 1-8 Indian country, the area lay north of the early routes used by 1-9 Spanish explorers; and 1-10 WHEREAS, On the Blackland Prairie of Northeast Texas, 1-11 Collin County has a rolling terrain that drains into the East and 1-12 Elm Forks of the Trinity River; the heavy black clay soil produces 1-13 a variety of native timber including oak, elm, bois d'arc, pecan, 1-14 and ash; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Collin County is a major agricultural area that 1-16 yields cotton, wheat, peanuts, alfalfa, and sorghum; beef cattle, 1-17 horses, and the dairy industry are important income producers; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The City of McKinney became the county seat in 1-19 1848 when it was moved from Buckner to a more central location; 1-20 the city has become a retail and wholesale center with varied 1-21 manufacturing plants; visitors enjoy the Heard Natural Science 1-22 Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, the Bolin Wildlife Exhibit, and 1-23 the Old Post Office Museum; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Plano is one of the state's fastest growing cities 2-2 and has spilled over into neighboring Denton County; with a 2-3 population of 136,340, the city is fast becoming a commercial and 2-4 financial center; known as the "Balloon Capital of Texas," Plano 2-5 hosts popular hot-air balloon races in September; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Collin County is blessed with an excellent climate, 2-7 an abundance of natural resources, beautiful scenery, and excellent 2-8 recreational opportunities; its industrious, energetic, and 2-9 friendly residents are its greatest assets; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Collin County Day is an appropriate occasion for 2-11 the Texas Senate to recognize the important contributions that 2-12 Collin County and its citizens have made and continue to make to 2-13 the state's greatness as well as to the growth and progress of 2-14 their magnificent county; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 74th Legislature, hereby recognize February 22, 1995, as 2-17 Collin County Day and extend best wishes to its residents for 2-18 a most enjoyable and rewarding celebration; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be presented to 2-20 Collin County as a memento of this important day and as an 2-21 expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-22 Shapiro 2-23 Haywood 2-24 Armbrister Leedom Ratliff 2-25 Barrientos Lucio Rosson 3-1 Bivins Luna Sibley 3-2 Brown Madla Sims 3-3 Cain Moncrief Truan 3-4 Ellis Montford Turner 3-5 Gallegos Nelson Wentworth 3-6 Galloway Nixon West 3-7 Harris Patterson Whitmire 3-8 Henderson Zaffirini 3-9 Bullock, President of the Senate 3-10 ______________________________________ 3-11 President of the Senate 3-12 I hereby certify that the above 3-13 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-14 on February 22, 1995. 3-15 ______________________________________ 3-16 Secretary of the Senate 3-17 ______________________________________ 3-18 Member, Texas Senate 3-19 ______________________________________ 3-20 Member, Texas Senate
