    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
    1-3  pleasure in recognizing 13 outstanding residents of the Rebekah
    1-4  Baines Johnson Retirement Center who are over 90 years of age;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, These remarkable women have shown courage and
    1-7  commitment to life and are exemplary role models for younger
    1-8  generations; through good times and bad, they have been women
    1-9  of vision who have exhibited great strength of character and
   1-10  who have faced life's difficulties with resilience and good
   1-11  humor; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement Center
   1-13  is hosting a special Valentine's Party on February 14, 1995, to
   1-14  honor these special citizens who have embraced life and all it
   1-15  offers with enjoyment and contentment; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Effie Leonard was born on September 30, 1904,
   1-17  in Orange, Texas, and has lived in the Rebekah Baines Johnson
   1-18  Retirement Center for 17 years; before her retirement, Effie
   1-19  did clerical work and still enjoys her hobbies of cooking and
   1-20  sewing; she is especially proud of her six grandchildren and
   1-21  12 great-grandchildren; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Throughout her busy life she has been active in
   1-23  volunteer work, and her desire to reach out to others is reflected
    2-1  in her philosophy of life:  "I really like people and have always
    2-2  been a friendly person who helped others"; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, It is fitting that the Texas Senate honor this
    2-4  distinguished citizen for her many contributions over her long
    2-5  and fruitful life; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, hereby recognize Effie Leonard as an honored
    2-8  citizen of her community and her state; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-10  her as an expression of the high esteem of the Texas Senate.
