    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
    1-3  pleasure in recognizing 13 outstanding residents of the Rebekah
    1-4  Baines Johnson Retirement Center who are over 90 years of age;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, These remarkable women have shown courage and
    1-7  commitment to life and are exemplary role models for younger
    1-8  generations; through good times and bad, they have been women
    1-9  of vision who have exhibited great strength of character and
   1-10  who have faced life's difficulties with resilience and good
   1-11  humor; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement Center
   1-13  is hosting a special Valentine's Party on February 14, 1995,
   1-14  to honor these special citizens who have embraced life and all
   1-15  it offers with enjoyment and contentment; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Irma Hurd was born on March 27, 1903, in
   1-17  Cleburne, Mississippi, and moved to Texas when she was 10 years
   1-18  old; she has lived at the Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement Center
   1-19  for six years; Irma is a devoted mother to her three daughters and
   1-20  takes great pleasure in her seven grandchildren and eight
   1-21  great-grandchildren; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Active throughout her life, Irma worked for
   1-23  over 17 years as a seamstress and ran a restaurant; her hobby
    2-1  is walking to keep in shape; her philosophy of life reflects
    2-2  her attitude toward good health:  "I think eating regularly
    2-3  and exercising has helped me through the years"; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, It is fitting that the Texas Senate honor this
    2-5  distinguished citizen for her many contributions over her long
    2-6  and fruitful life; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-8  74th Legislature, hereby recognize Irma Hurd as an honored
    2-9  citizen of her community and her state; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-11  her as an expression of the high esteem of the Texas Senate.
