No. 197 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great 1-3 pleasure in recognizing 13 outstanding residents of the 1-4 Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement Center who are over 90 years 1-5 of age; and 1-6 WHEREAS, These remarkable women have shown courage and 1-7 commitment to life and are exemplary role models for younger 1-8 generations; through good times and bad, they have been women of 1-9 vision who have exhibited great strength of character and who have 1-10 faced life's difficulties with resilience and good humor; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement Center is 1-12 hosting a special Valentine's Party on February 14, 1995, to honor 1-13 these special citizens who have embraced life and all it offers 1-14 with enjoyment and contentment; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Born on January 27, 1901, in Whetland, Oklahoma, 1-16 Ruth Franklin moved to Texas four years ago and has lived in the 1-17 Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement Center for the past three years; 1-18 and 1-19 WHEREAS, The devoted mother of three children, she was a 1-20 schoolteacher by profession and taught second, third, and fifth 1-21 grades; she has pursued her hobbies, crochet, embroidery, and 1-22 watercolors, and has sold some of her paintings; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Her most exciting job was working on an Indian 2-1 reservation near Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she taught Pueblo 2-2 Indian children; and 2-3 WHEREAS, It is fitting that the Texas Senate honor this 2-4 distinguished citizen for her many contributions over her long and 2-5 fruitful life; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 74th Legislature, hereby recognize Ruth Franklin as an honored 2-8 citizen of her community and her state; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-10 her as an expression of the high esteem of the Texas Senate. 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 President of the Senate 2-13 I hereby certify that the above 2-14 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-15 on February 13, 1995. 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 Secretary of the Senate 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Member, Texas Senate
