    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
    1-3  pleasure in recognizing 13 outstanding residents of the Rebekah
    1-4  Baines Johnson Retirement Center who are over 90 years of age;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, These remarkable women have shown courage and
    1-7  commitment to life and are exemplary role models for younger
    1-8  generations; through good times and bad, they have been women
    1-9  of vision who have exhibited great strength of character and
   1-10  who have faced life's difficulties with resilience and good
   1-11  humor; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement Center is
   1-13  hosting a special Valentine's Party on February 14, 1995, to
   1-14  honor these special citizens who have embraced life and all it
   1-15  offers with enjoyment and contentment; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Born February 25, 1896, in Boston, Massachusetts,
   1-17  Beatrice "Betty" de Goumois grew up in New York City and became a
   1-18  dancer in musical comedies; she performed for the Ziegfeld Follies
   1-19  and was in the original production of Irene; she moved to Texas
   1-20  in 1980 to be near her daughter, an attorney; she has three
   1-21  grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A woman of many talents, Mrs. de Goumois is
   1-23  currently compiling a book entitled Wall of Walls and is also
    2-1  working on a play; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, She is of French-Irish descent and is a member of
    2-3  the de Raffe family, a prominent family in British and American
    2-4  history; her philosophy is "Life wasn't made for sissies; life
    2-5  is hard and they don't tell you how hard; you just have to live
    2-6  it"; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, It is fitting that the Texas Senate honor this
    2-8  distinguished citizen for her many contributions over her long
    2-9  and fruitful life; now, therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-11  74th Legislature, hereby recognize Beatrice "Betty" de Goumois
   2-12  as an honored citizen of her community and her state; and, be
   2-13  it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-15  her as an expression of the high esteem of the Texas Senate.
