No. 203 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 honoring Volunteers in Service to America on the grand occasion 1-4 of its 30th anniversary; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Since 1965, more than 100,000 Americans have served 1-6 in Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) which is a part of 1-7 AmeriCorps; these volunteers have dedicated their time and energy 1-8 to helping individuals and communities across the country that are 1-9 in need of assistance; and 1-10 WHEREAS, This admirable organization helps citizens in the 1-11 areas of education, human needs, public safety, and the environment; 1-12 particular attention is given to people of low income who need 1-13 assistance in improving their lives; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Currently, there are more than 600 VISTA members who 1-15 serve more than 120 communities in Texas, helping those communities 1-16 to address their most urgent issues; and 1-17 WHEREAS, President Johnson's legacy, often referred to as 1-18 the "domestic version of the Peace Corps," VISTA is well known for 1-19 the programs it has developed to help entire neighborhoods; and 1-20 WHEREAS, The members of VISTA are exemplary individuals and 1-21 sources of strength to our country, and their many accomplishments 1-22 reflect their uncommon generosity, dedication, and concern for 1-23 others; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-2 74th Legislature, hereby recognize Volunteers in Service to America 2-3 for its worthy contributions to communities across America and 2-4 commend the men and women who are unselfishly serving their country 2-5 as part of AmeriCorps; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them 2-7 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-8 ______________________________________ 2-9 President of the Senate 2-10 I hereby certify that the above 2-11 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-12 on February 13, 1995. 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Secretary of the Senate 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Member, Texas Senate
