No. 205 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride 1-3 in joining the citizens of Gatesville in proclaiming Tuesday, 1-4 February 14, 1995, as Gatesville Day; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The county seat of Coryell County, Gatesville 1-6 is located in the heart of Central Texas and is surrounded by 1-7 beautiful scenery and intriguing historical sites; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Originally a frontier post established on the 1-9 banks of the Leon River, this attractive city rests in the midst 1-10 of a fertile farmland belt and rolling hills; the area is accented 1-11 by the majestic bluffs of the river and the giant trees, streams, 1-12 and ponds that generously grace the landscape; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The city is home to Raby Park and Faunt Le Roy 1-14 Park and is just 23 miles from Mother Neff State Park, the 1-15 state's oldest park; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Numerous festivals and events take place in 1-17 Gatesville throughout the year; the summer brings the Shivaree 1-18 Arts Fair and Rodeo and the Junior Rodeo, as well as JackPot 1-19 Roping and PlayDay at the Gatesville Riding Club Arena; in December, 1-20 there is the traditional Holiday Tour of Homes and Christmas Parade, 1-21 and in January, the city holds a Youth Fair; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Gatesville was founded by courageous and hardy 1-23 pioneers and was named the county seat in 1854; in spite of 2-1 progressive development, the city has maintained its historical 2-2 flavor and has wisely preserved much of its architectural past; 2-3 and 2-4 WHEREAS, Still standing are the old double-walled log 2-5 jail built in 1855 and the First Christian Church established in 2-6 1892; the graceful and impressive Coryell County courthouse remains 2-7 the centerpiece of the town and is one of the finest examples of 2-8 the Romanesque Renaissance Revival structures in Texas; and 2-9 WHEREAS, While Gatesville offers the opportunities of a 2-10 modern city, its rural charm and natural beauty have been retained, 2-11 and the Gatesville residents deserve to be proud of their efforts 2-12 to safeguard the amenities of their city; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 74th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the people of 2-15 Gatesville for their contributions to our state and extend best 2-16 wishes to them for a joyous and celebratory Gatesville Day; and, 2-17 be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-19 the residents of Gatesville as an expression of regard from the 2-20 Texas Senate. 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on February 13, 1995. 3-1 ______________________________________ 3-2 Secretary of the Senate 3-3 ______________________________________ 3-4 Member, Texas Senate
