    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Marlene Sharon Saritzky served as Director of the
    1-3  Office of Music, Film, Television, and Multimedia Industries from
    1-4  September, 1991, until February, 1995, and the Texas Senate is
    1-5  pleased to recognize her unique contributions to this important
    1-6  state industry; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Appointed by Governor Ann Richards to head
    1-8  the state's primary marketing effort to the film, music, and
    1-9  multimedia industries, Marlene Saritzky brought to her position
   1-10  a wealth of experience and expertise; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, During her tenure as director, she worked closely
   1-12  with producers of feature films, television movies, television
   1-13  series, and music videos throughout Texas; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Under her leadership, Texas had three record
   1-15  years of production and hosted 108 film, television, video, and
   1-16  commercial projects; the combined production budgets and economic
   1-17  impact on the Texas economy totaled over $514 million; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, A native of Los Angeles, California, Marlene Saritzky
   1-19  earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California at
   1-20  Berkeley and had a successful consulting practice in Los Angeles
   1-21  advising clients on their philanthropic and political activities,
   1-22  including fundraising and special events; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, In September, 1991, she was hired by the Texas
    2-1  Department of Commerce and the governor's office to plan
    2-2  Governor Richards's trip to Los Angeles to market the
    2-3  State of Texas to the film and television industries; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Marlene Saritzky has made important contributions
    2-5  to numerous organizations and political groups; she served as
    2-6  vice-president of Corporate Communications of UBU Productions,
    2-7  a film and television company, and as executive director of the
    2-8  Jean Street Fund, a family foundation that focused on the issues
    2-9  of family, children, and women; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, During the 1980s, she was executive director of the
   2-11  Hollywood Women's Political Committee whose members were producers,
   2-12  writers, actors, agents, and other professionals dedicated to
   2-13  electing women and men to political offices; and
   2-14        WHEREAS, The citizens of Texas have benefitted from the rapid
   2-15  development of the film and music industry in the Lone Star State
   2-16  while under the able direction of Marlene Sharon Saritzky; now,
   2-17  therefore, be it
   2-18        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-19  74th Legislature, hereby express its deep appreciation to
   2-20  Marlene Sharon Saritzky and extend best wishes to her for
   2-21  continued success in her future endeavors; and, be it further
   2-22        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-23  her as a token of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
