1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
1-3 recognizing Wayne S. Alexander, an outstanding citizen of our
1-4 state, for his 24 years of loyal service with Southwestern Bell
1-5 Telephone Company; and
1-6 WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Missouri with a
1-7 master's degree in engineering management, Wayne Alexander began
1-8 his successful career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company
1-9 in 1971, serving as the installation supervisor in Kansas City,
1-10 Missouri; he then held a number of management positions located
1-11 in Springfield, Missouri, Saint Louis, Missouri, Washington, D.C.,
1-12 San Antonio, and Houston; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Highly respected for his expertise, he was
1-14 promoted to the position of Vice-President of the Southwestern
1-15 Bell Telephone Company in Houston where he has been responsible
1-16 for all residential and business customer services, including
1-17 installation and maintenance, engineering and construction, and
1-18 network operations and special services; and
1-19 WHEREAS, A man of many talents and interests, Mr. Alexander
1-20 was appointed by former Governor Ann Richards to the Texas Aerospace
1-21 Commission where he now serves as chairman; he is also chairman
1-22 of the Mexico Task Force for the Greater Houston Partnership, is
1-23 a member of the Houston Regional Advisory Board for Texas Commerce
2-1 Bank, and is on the boards of directors for Central Houston and
2-2 Private Sector Initiatives; and
2-3 WHEREAS, An esteemed leader in his community, Mr. Alexander
2-4 is a member of the Board of Trustees of the United Way of the
2-5 Texas Gulf Coast and serves on the Executive Board of the Houston
2-6 Business Council and the Executive Board of the Sam Houston Area
2-7 Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and
2-8 WHEREAS, A gifted administrator, Mr. Alexander has had a
2-9 positive influence on the lives of his co-workers, and he has
2-10 played a major role in making Southwestern Bell Telephone Company
2-11 in Houston the first-rate company that it is today; and
2-12 WHEREAS, Wayne Alexander is beloved and admired by his
2-13 colleagues, and his presence at the Southwestern Bell Telephone
2-14 Company in Houston will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-16 74th Legislature, hereby commend Wayne S. Alexander for his
2-17 distinguished career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in
2-18 Houston and extend to him best wishes and congratulations on his
2-19 new position in Chile; and, be it further
2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
2-21 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
