    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize the City of Richardson as it celebrates Richardson
    1-4  Day on March 21, 1995; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Situated in northeast Dallas County and built
    1-6  around a new station on the Texas and New Orleans Railroad,
    1-7  this settlement was called Breckenridge before the Civil War;
    1-8  the name of the little community was changed in honor of
    1-9  A. S. Richardson, a railroad official, in 1872; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Now home to over 76,000 people, the city
   1-11  experienced its main growth as a result of the rapid growth
   1-12  of Dallas; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, This prosperous town enjoys 27 parks covering
   1-14  1,014 acres that offer fitness trails, swimming pools, and tennis
   1-15  courts; most residents live within a half mile of a park; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Industry is the economic base of the area; it
   1-17  includes more than 400 high tech and telecommunications companies;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, There is a fascinating historical farm and museum
   1-20  at Owens Spring Creek Farm that includes an old-time blacksmith
   1-21  shop, a farm kitchen, antiques, large Belgian draft horses,
   1-22  Shetland horses, and small farm animals; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The town was incorporated in 1925, with T. F. McKamy
    2-1  serving as its first mayor; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Richardson is the home of many honorable Texans who
    2-3  are proud of their community and its history; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, This charming community has as its greatest asset
    2-5  its citizenry; they have made a town that is truly deserving of
    2-6  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-8  74th Legislature, hereby declare March 21, 1995, as Richardson
    2-9  Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to residents
   2-10  of that fair city; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-12  town as a memento of this special day.
