No. 226 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing the League of Women Voters on the grand occasion of 1-4 its 75th birthday; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan 1-6 organization dedicated to promoting the full participation of 1-7 citizens in the election of governmental officials; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Originally an outgrowth of the National American 1-9 Woman Suffrage Association, the League of Women Voters was founded 1-10 in Chicago in February of 1920; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The goal of the organization is to improve the 1-12 political, economic, and social structure of the nation; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters of Lubbock was founded in 1-14 April of 1952 and has continued to flourish over the last 43 years; 1-15 and 1-16 WHEREAS, Members of the League of Women Voters of Lubbock are 1-17 hosting a birthday party on February 21, 1995, at the Garden and 1-18 Arts Center, in honor of the national organization's 75th birthday; 1-19 now, therefore, be it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-21 74th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the League of 1-22 Women Voters for their outstanding accomplishments and extend best 1-23 wishes to the League of Women Voters of Lubbock for a joyous 75th 2-1 birthday celebration; and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them 2-3 as an expression of regard from the Texas Senate. 2-4 ______________________________________ 2-5 President of the Senate 2-6 I hereby certify that the above 2-7 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-8 on February 16, 1995. 2-9 ______________________________________ 2-10 Secretary of the Senate 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 Member, Texas Senate
