No. 227 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 William Kolliker 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-6 of El Paso in mourning the death of noted artist and teacher 1-7 William Kolliker; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born in 1905 in Bern, Switzerland, William Kolliker 1-9 moved to the United States at the age of 15; and 1-10 WHEREAS, After a career as an artist for various newspapers, 1-11 he moved to El Paso in 1953 and began to devote himself full time 1-12 to his artwork; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A highly talented artist, he became one of El Paso's 1-14 foremost watercolorists; his early paintings were of owls, and his 1-15 later works were largely of desert landscapes, florals, and city 1-16 scenes; and 1-17 WHEREAS, William Kolliker was commissioned by the federal 1-18 government to create an artwork on the Amistad Dam near Del Rio, 1-19 Texas, and the painting was unveiled in 1969, with President Nixon 1-20 in attendance; and 1-21 WHEREAS, By his own statements, his artwork was a reflection 1-22 of his soul and a reflection of his love for the Texas land; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Well known to people across the state, Mr. Kolliker 2-1 was a teacher and mentor to other artists and was a source of pride 2-2 to the City of El Paso; and 2-3 WHEREAS, He gave generously of his time to others and was 2-4 dedicated to his work; and his talent, warmth, and love of life 2-5 will continue to live on in the many paintings he left behind; now, 2-6 therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved 2-9 family of William Kolliker; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-11 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-12 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so 2-13 in memory of William Kolliker. 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the above 2-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-18 on February 16, 1995, by a rising vote. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
