    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                        John V. Shropshire, Sr.
    1-5        WHEREAS, The death of John V. Shropshire, Sr., of Lubbock
    1-6  on January 30, 1995, was deeply mourned by the residents of that
    1-7  city; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman was born on
    1-9  January 31, 1914, in Colorado City; he was united in marriage
   1-10  to Iva Lee Rankin on November 10, 1935, in Big Spring, and
   1-11  together they provided a loving home for their children; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Shropshire was an active
   1-13  member of the First United Methodist Church and was an honorary
   1-14  lifetime member of the church board; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, A highly respected businessman, he was an
   1-16  insurance agent who began his association with a local agency
   1-17  in 1946; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, A well-known community leader, John Shropshire
   1-19  served as President of the Lubbock City-County Welfare Board and
   1-20  the Lubbock Association of Insurance Agents and as a member of
   1-21  the Lubbock Knife and Fork Club; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and compassion, he
   1-23  gave unselfishly of his time to others; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, His wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not
    2-2  be forgotten by those who knew him; now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-4  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
    2-5  members of his family:  his wife, Iva Lee Shropshire; his
    2-6  daughter, Sue Cooper; his son, John V. Shropshire, Jr.; and
    2-7  his four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and, be it
    2-8  further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-10  his family as an expression of the deepest sympathy from the
   2-11  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
   2-12  do so in memory of John V. Shropshire, Sr.
