No. 233 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing Helen Harsh of New Holland, Pennsylvania, the 1994-1995 1-4 National President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of 1-5 Foreign Wars of the United States; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A charter member of Charles E. Ludwig Auxiliary 7362, 1-7 Helen Harsh served in five offices leading to the presidency, and 1-8 as Senior Vice-President she represented the Auxiliary on a tour 1-9 of European Posts and Auxiliaries, military installations, NATO, 1-10 and SHAPE; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The wealth of experience she brings to her role 1-12 as president also includes serving as a National Council of 1-13 Administration Member and Community Activities Director; she was 1-14 Local Auxiliary President five times and Treasurer twice; she was 1-15 the State Fall Conference Chairman and was on the State Budget 1-16 Committee for three years; and 1-17 WHEREAS, As the new president, Mrs. Harsh has introduced the 1-18 theme of "Touch the Past and Celebrate the Future" to encourage the 1-19 Auxiliary's tradition of service to America; during the 1993-1994 1-20 year, the 770,308 members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans 1-21 of Foreign Wars contributed a record high of $46 million conducting 1-22 community service and patriotic programs; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Members raise more than $3 million nationwide each 2-1 year to fight cancer; they also volunteer in Veterans Affairs 2-2 Medical Centers, award scholarships to students, provide flags 2-3 to community groups and schools, and conduct POW/MIA awareness 2-4 programs; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary 2-6 Department of Texas has a membership of over 47,000 and consists 2-7 of 29 districts with over 400 auxiliaries; and 2-8 WHEREAS, During her tenure as president, Helen Harsh is 2-9 focusing on increasing the nationwide total membership and topping 2-10 the $3 million mark in the Cancer Aid and Research Fund for the 2-11 seventh consecutive year; and 2-12 WHEREAS, An exemplary and resourceful individual, 2-13 Helen Harsh is well known for her tenacity and her remarkable 2-14 abilities, and her leadership is a tremendous asset to the Ladies 2-15 Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-17 74th Legislature, hereby commend Helen Harsh for her outstanding 2-18 efforts and accomplishments and extend to her best wishes for 2-19 continued success; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-21 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 President of the Senate 2-24 I hereby certify that the above 2-25 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-1 on February 16, 1995. 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Secretary of the Senate 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 Member, Texas Senate
