    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, A century ago, two brothers, Frank G. Edmiston
    1-3  and C. L. "Charlie" Edmiston, Sr., established Edmiston Brothers
    1-4  Wholesale Grocery Supply Company in Crockett, Texas, and the
    1-5  Texas Senate is proud to offer congratulations to the descendents
    1-6  who have continued the family tradition; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Despite personal tragedies and a fire that
    1-8  destroyed the warehouse, Edmiston Brothers is celebrating its
    1-9  100th anniversary of constant service to the citizens of Crockett;
   1-10  and
   1-11        WHEREAS, In the beginning, Edmiston Brothers was located
   1-12  on the town square at the corner of East Goliad and South Fifth
   1-13  Street, but later it was moved to a warehouse on West Houston
   1-14  Avenue; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, After the death of Frank Edmiston in 1922, his
   1-16  brother, Charlie, bought his stock in the company which by then
   1-17  included the Edmiston Motor Company, Edmiston Hardware Company,
   1-18  and the Crockett Bottling Works; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The warehouse on West Houston was destroyed by
   1-20  fire in 1928, and the wholesale grocery supply company operated
   1-21  out of a friend's warehouse until the new warehouse was rebuilt;
   1-22  and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Charlie's son, Lanier, joined the business as
    2-1  vice-president around 1925 and became its president in 1930;
    2-2  C. L. Edmiston, Sr., died in 1935, and Lanier's son,
    2-3  Charles L. Edmiston, Jr., was born in 1938; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Young Charlie grew up around the family business
    2-5  working in the warehouse but studied business and anthropology
    2-6  in college; he served in the military before returning to Crockett
    2-7  to join his father in Edmiston Brothers, and their partnership
    2-8  became a wonderful working relationship; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, By 1968 the business had expanded until the need
   2-10  for larger space was necessary; seven and 1/2 acres were purchased
   2-11  on South Loop where a 40,000 square-foot warehouse was built to
   2-12  accommodate the growing company and Charlie became its president;
   2-13  and
   2-14        WHEREAS, Edmiston Brothers has earned the respect and
   2-15  admiration of the citizens of Crockett and has been a contributing
   2-16  factor to the growth of the community and its economic stability;
   2-17  the loyalty of the company's employees is impressive with some of
   2-18  its employees having worked for the company more than 40 years;
   2-19  now, therefore, be it
   2-20        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-21  74th Legislature, hereby extend hearty congratulations to the
   2-22  members of the Edmiston family of Crockett for their exceptional
   2-23  contributions to their community and extend best wishes to them
   2-24  for the continued success of Edmiston Brothers; and, be it further
   2-25        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
    3-1  memento of this centennial celebration.
