    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  joining the citizens of Corsicana in proclaiming Tuesday,
    1-4  February 21, 1995, as Corsicana Day; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Located in the heart of East Texas, Corsicana was
    1-6  established in 1849 and is the county seat of Navarro County; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, The city was the site of one of Texas' first oil
    1-8  refineries and was the first city in the state to use natural gas
    1-9  for fuel and lighting and crude oil for locomotive fuel; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Corsicana rests in the midst of a rich blacklands
   1-11  agricultural area and is a center for much of the county's retail
   1-12  and wholesale marketing; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The city has received culinary fame for its popular
   1-14  Corsicana fruit cake which has been baked by the Collin Street
   1-15  Bakery since 1896 and is marketed under the name "Deluxe"; the
   1-16  cake is shipped nationwide and to foreign countries and is the
   1-17  only fruit cake to receive the rare Gourmet Society Culinary Merit
   1-18  Award; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Corsicana is also home to the well-known
   1-20  Gaston C. Gooch Library which has on exhibit 44,000 pieces of
   1-21  Indian art and craft, considered one of the finest collections
   1-22  in the Southwest; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The city's Pioneer Village is a delightful tourist
    2-1  spot and consists of houses and buildings from the mid-1800s that
    2-2  were restored by the Navarro County Historical Society; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, A city of charm in which a touch of the past is
    2-4  nicely blended with modern amenities and opportunities, Corsicana
    2-5  is a source of pride to Texas; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the people of
    2-8  Corsicana for their contributions to our state and extend best
    2-9  wishes to them for a joyous and celebratory Corsicana Day; and,
   2-10  be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  the residents of Corsicana as an expression of regard from the
   2-13  Texas Senate.
