    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to join people across
    1-3  the nation in recognizing February 12 through 18, 1995, as
    1-4  National Vocational-Technical Education Week; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The theme of this special week, "School-to-Work
    1-6  Transition," is especially appropriate for the citizens of the
    1-7  Lone Star State; as Texas stands poised on the brink of a new
    1-8  century, this state's young people face the challenges of finding
    1-9  work in an increasingly competitive global economy; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Vocational and technical education programs have
   1-11  never before been so important to helping our children achieve
   1-12  their professional goals and maintaining the economic strength
   1-13  and diversity of Texas; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, When coupled with solid academic instruction,
   1-15  career and technology classes teach young people the analytical
   1-16  skills and professional expertise needed to become effective
   1-17  participants in the workforce; students are also given the
   1-18  guidance and experience they need to build rewarding careers
   1-19  in the fields of their choice; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Vocational and technical student organizations
   1-21  play a key role in the educational process as well; these groups
   1-22  work closely with educators to improve the quality of instruction,
   1-23  develop student leadership, enhance citizenship responsibilities,
    2-1  and overcome sexual and racial discrimination within the workforce;
    2-2  and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Among the many notable associations that have
    2-4  been established for vocational and technical education students
    2-5  are the FFA, Future Homemakers of America, Future Business Leaders
    2-6  of America, Business Professionals of America, Health Occupations
    2-7  Students of America, and the State Association of Young Farmers
    2-8  of Texas; the Technology Student Association, the Vocational
    2-9  Industrial Clubs of America, and the Distributive Education Club
   2-10  of America are also popular and successful student organizations;
   2-11  and
   2-12        WHEREAS, These programs and organizations prepare young
   2-13  Texans for the future and are essential components of the public
   2-14  education system in this state, and it is indeed fitting that
   2-15  vocational and technical education be given special recognition
   2-16  and support; now, therefore, be it
   2-17        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-18  74th Legislature, hereby recognize February 12 through 18, 1995,
   2-19  as National Vocational-Technical Education Week and commend the
   2-20  students, teachers, and administrators who have made vocational
   2-21  and technical education a successful and important part of public
   2-22  education in Texas; and, be it further
   2-23        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
   2-24  prepared for the state presidents of Texas vocational and technical
   2-25  student organizations as an expression of the high esteem of the
    3-1  Texas Senate.
