    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  recognizing Larry J. Allen, a graduate student at Texas Southern
    1-4  University, for his recent selection as a recipient of the
    1-5  University Transportation Centers 1995 Student of the Year
    1-6  Award; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, The University Transportation Centers Program
    1-8  was established to attract the nation's best talent to the
    1-9  transportation field; through this program the United States
   1-10  Department of Transportation honors the most outstanding student
   1-11  from each of the participating centers for achievement and for
   1-12  contributions to transportation research and education; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Larry Allen is currently pursuing a master of
   1-14  science degree in transportation planning and management; he
   1-15  has participated in several research projects, conferences, and
   1-16  other training activities of the Center for Transportation Training
   1-17  and Research at Texas Southern University; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Mr. Allen has been employed with the Texas
   1-19  Department of Transportation for 10 years as a roadway engineering
   1-20  designer; his responsibilities include planning the preparation of
   1-21  roadway and bridge projects, developing specifications, making bid
   1-22  requests, and obtaining cost estimates; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, An outstanding student, as well as a professional
    2-1  employee, Mr. Allen has been the recipient of a Conference of
    2-2  Minority Transportation Officials Scholarship, has been named
    2-3  the Outstanding Student in the Department of Transportation
    2-4  Studies, and has received a Center for Transportation Training
    2-5  and Research Scholarly Achievement and Excellence Award; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, An exemplary individual with clear-sighted goals,
    2-7  Larry Allen is noted for his perseverance and hard work, and he
    2-8  will undoubtedly continue to make many valuable contributions to
    2-9  the field of transportation; now, therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-11  74th Legislature, hereby commend Larry Allen for his exceptional
   2-12  achievements and extend congratulations to him for his selection
   2-13  as Student of the Year; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-15  as an expression of the esteem of the Texas Senate.
