    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                          Robert Charles Witt
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the family
    1-6  and innumerable friends of Robert Charles Witt in mourning his
    1-7  untimely death on February 7, 1995, at the age of 53; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born on August 24, 1941, in Tyndall, South Dakota,
    1-9  Bob Witt earned two bachelor's degrees from the University of
   1-10  South Dakota, a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin,
   1-11  and his doctorate in business and economics from the University
   1-12  of Pennsylvania; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, A brilliant and respected scholar and teacher, he
   1-14  taught in the Department of Finance at The University of Texas at
   1-15  Austin where he was the Gus S. Wortham Memorial Chaired Professor
   1-16  of Risk Management and Insurance; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, An internationally recognized researcher and
   1-18  author, he received the College of Business Administration Award
   1-19  for Outstanding Long Term Research Contributions in 1987; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, In 1990, he was ranked by his peers as the
   1-21  second most prolific writer in insurance research in the world;
   1-22  throughout his career he served as an advisor to the Texas Medical
   1-23  Malpractice Study Commission, the American Insurance Association,
    2-1  the Construction Industry Institute, and the National Association
    2-2  of Independent Insurers; recently, he had served as an advisor to
    2-3  the United States Justice Department; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, An outstanding teacher and mentor to his students,
    2-5  Professor Witt earned their respect and love; a man of integrity,
    2-6  strength, and compassion, he gave unselfishly of his time to many;
    2-7  and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Though Professor Witt will be greatly missed by
    2-9  his family, friends, colleagues, and associates throughout the
   2-10  world, his spirit lives on in his many accomplishments and in the
   2-11  contributions that he made to those around him; now, therefore,
   2-12  be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-14  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-15  members of his family on their grievous loss:  his wife,
   2-16  Laura Gutierrez-Witt; his daughter, Kristina Witt; his mother,
   2-17  Hilda Witt; his brothers, Daryl Witt, Larry Witt, Ken Witt, and
   2-18  Dennis Witt; and his sister, Marcy Schroeder; and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-20  his family as an expression of the deepest sympathy from the
   2-21  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
   2-22  so in memory of Robert Charles Witt.
