By: Truan S.R. No. 276 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing Buddy R. Venters who is retiring after 38 years of 1-4 loyal service with Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Buddy Venters joined Del Mar College in 1957 as 1-6 an assistant business manager; he became business manager in 1963, 1-7 controller in 1968, and vice-president of the college in 1980; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A talented and resourceful administrator and 1-9 educator, he became president of the college in 1987 and has 1-10 served with expertise in that position for the past seven years; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, Throughout his successful career, Mr. Venters has 1-13 had a positive influence on the lives of innumerable students, 1-14 members of the community, and employees of the college; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A leader in the field of education, Mr. Venters 1-16 served as a consultant for community colleges for the Maryland 1-17 State Board of Higher Education; he is an advisory committee member 1-18 of the Buccaneer Commission and serves as a board member of the 1-19 Nueces County Business Education Coalition; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Active in civic affairs, Mr. Venters serves on 1-21 the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the 1-22 education, training and employment subcommittee of the Enterprise 1-23 Community Program, and the Vision 2000 Leadership Task Force; and 2-1 WHEREAS, During his tenure at Del Mar College, Buddy Venters 2-2 has fostered a positive campus ambience and has developed procedures 2-3 and programs to improve curriculum and expand educational 2-4 opportunities; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Venters's distinguished leadership has been a 2-6 tremendous asset to Del Mar College, and he has played a major role 2-7 in making Del Mar College the first-rate institution it is today; 2-8 now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 74th Legislature, hereby commend Buddy R.
