No. 282 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased and 1-3 proud to recognize METRO Police Officer Roger Salazar for being 1-4 named Officer of the Year by the 100 Club of Houston, Incorporated, 1-5 at its 41st Annual Awards Banquet on January 19, 1995; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Disregarding his personal safety during a heavy 1-7 flash flood in October, 1993, Officer Salazar waded through 1-8 chest-deep water to rescue an elderly citizen trapped in a 1-9 submerged vehicle; and 1-10 WHEREAS, While approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed 1-11 a swirling current in the water due to a nearby open manhole; when 1-12 the door of the vehicle was opened, the force of the water pushed 1-13 the woman from her seat and drew her underwater; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Officer Salazar immediately dove beneath the swift 1-15 flood waters and successfully pulled the woman to the surface 1-16 and to safe ground; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The courage, tenacity, and quick-witted response 1-18 that the officer demonstrated under these extremely dangerous 1-19 conditions is evidence of bravery of the highest caliber and 1-20 should be congratulated; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-22 74th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the meritorious 1-23 actions of METRO Police Officer Roger Salazar that earned him 2-1 the selection of Officer of the Year by the 100 Club of Houston, 2-2 Incorporated; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-4 Officer Salazar as an expression of the highest regard of the 2-5 Texas Senate and as a memento of his courageous act. 2-6 ______________________________________ 2-7 President of the Senate 2-8 I hereby certify that the above 2-9 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-10 on February 21, 1995. 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 Secretary of the Senate 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Member, Texas Senate
