1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 In Memory
1-3 of
1-4 Lillie Belle Brown Hall
1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas was saddened by
1-6 the loss of Lillie Belle Brown Hall who died on February 19, 1995,
1-7 at the age of 87; and
1-8 WHEREAS, She was born on February 10, 1908, in Dallas to
1-9 John Brown and Reaphy Tabb Brown; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Lillie Belle Brown attended elementary school
1-11 and Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas; she received her
1-12 bachelor of arts degree from Bishop College in Marshall, Texas;
1-13 she earned her master's degree in English from Teachers College
1-14 of Columbia University in New York, New York; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hall was quite young when she began teaching
1-16 and she taught for 50 years, never missing a day of work; her first
1-17 teaching post was in Point, Texas; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Her next teaching position was in Gilmer, Texas,
1-19 where she became a nationally noted coach for the girls' basketball
1-20 team; and
1-21 WHEREAS, She later moved to Dallas and taught at Lincoln High
1-22 School and Hillcrest High School; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Lillie Belle was joined in matrimony to J. D. Hall
2-1 on June 17, 1935; they enjoyed a happy home life that enabled them
2-2 to raise and educate several young people; and
2-3 WHEREAS, A woman who had strong religious feelings, she
2-4 accepted Christ at an early age; Mrs. Hall became an active
2-5 member of Mount Rose Baptist Church in Dallas; she later joined
2-6 Good Street Baptist Church and served for many years as an active
2-7 member; and
2-8 WHEREAS, After her retirement, this remarkable woman became
2-9 an activist for numerous social, civic, and religious causes; she
2-10 was an advocate for senior citizens throughout the State of Texas;
2-11 and
2-12 WHEREAS, Her zest for her work was apparent in her leadership,
2-13 loyalty, and dedication to those she taught and loved; and
2-14 WHEREAS, This respected lady's varied and notable achievements
2-15 contributed greatly to the development and progress of her beloved
2-16 community, city, and state; now, therefore, be it
2-17 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-18 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to her bereaved
2-19 family: her husband, J. D. Hall; her cousin, Johnnie Lee Graves;
2-20 and Phyllis Tucker and Sylvia Woods, whom she and her husband
2-21 raised; and, be it further
2-22 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-23 members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-24 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-25 in memory of Lillie Belle Brown Hall.
