    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
    1-3  congratulating Hattie Martin Elementary School in Robstown for
    1-4  receiving a grant award from the SBC Foundation; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The grant awarded by Southwestern Bell will be used
    1-6  by the school to implement a program to promote parental involvement
    1-7  in their children's educational progress; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, The education of the children of Texas is of primary
    1-9  importance to all the citizens of our state, and the challenge of
   1-10  building an excellent educational system must be met by educators,
   1-11  parents, and legislators; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Community and corporate involvement are crucial
   1-13  components in building a comprehensive educational system; the
   1-14  efforts of Southwestern Bell to improve the schools in Texas are
   1-15  commendable; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The SBC Foundation has awarded educational assistance
   1-17  to 48 public, private, and parochial schools statewide for 1995; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, The SBC Foundation has focused its objective on
   1-19  helping make our schools among the best in the nation, recognizing
   1-20  that a well-educated populace is crucial to our future as a society
   1-21  as well as to our economic well-being; now, therefore, be it
   1-22        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   1-23  74th Legislature, hereby commend Hattie Martin Elementary School
    2-1  for receiving a 1995 educational grant from SBC Foundation to
    2-2  extend its efforts to increase parental involvement; and, be it
    2-3  further
    2-4        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
    2-5  school as an expression of the appreciation and high regard of the
    2-6  Texas Senate.
