    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                            G. W. Childers
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
    1-6  of Odessa in mourning the loss of G. W. "Red" Childers who died
    1-7  February 4, 1995; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born on May 9, 1918, in Rising Star, he moved to
    1-9  Odessa in 1945; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, He married Lou Callan on November 27, 1949; the
   1-11  devoted couple provided a loving home for their children and
   1-12  enjoyed a happy home life until her death in 1983; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, An extremely patriotic man, Mr. Childers served his
   1-14  country honorably in the United States Army during World War II;
   1-15  he received the prestigious Soldier's Medal, presented to him by
   1-16  General Dwight D. Eisenhower, and earned five Bronze Stars as
   1-17  well; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Highly respected by his associates, he worked as a
   1-19  tool pusher for Loffland Brothers Drilling Company for 30 years;
   1-20  later, he worked for Well Site Consultants for five years and
   1-21  retired in 1983; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and compassion,
   1-23  Red Childers gave unselfishly of his time to others; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, His wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will be
    2-2  missed and remembered with gratitude by those who knew him;
    2-3  now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-5  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
    2-6  members of his family:  his sons, Gaylon Childers, Don Childers,
    2-7  and Garland Childers; his daughter-in-law and her husband, Rowena
    2-8  and Don Nickerson; his brothers, J. C. Childers, Blanton Childers,
    2-9  John Childers, and Bill Dixon Childers; his sister, Hallie Hartley;
   2-10  and his seven grandchildren; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
   2-12  family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
   2-13  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-14  G. W. "Red" Childers.
