    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                          Donald Ray Stafford
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the family
    1-6  and many friends of Donald Ray Stafford in mourning the loss of the
    1-7  prominent citizen who died February 7, 1995, at the age of 64; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born in Dill City, Oklahoma, Mr. Stafford served his
    1-9  country honorably during the Korean conflict while he was in the
   1-10  United States Navy; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, In 1960, Mr. Stafford moved to Odessa and in 1962
   1-12  became the first business manager for the Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang;
   1-13  and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Don served as manager and interim president of the
   1-15  Odessa Chamber of Commerce in the middle of the 1960s; he was a
   1-16  very successful realtor and was past president of the Odessa Board
   1-17  of Realtors; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, This gentleman was well respected by all who came
   1-19  in contact with him; he was known among his fellow citizens for his
   1-20  generosity and friendliness; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, A man of integrity, he was a commercial real estate
   1-22  broker who was credited with procuring the land for the Texas Tech
   1-23  Regional Academic Health Center, negotiating the purchase of 52
    2-1  tracts of land from 43 owners in less than 45 days; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Mr. Stafford was the first commercial realtor to
    2-3  complete a $1 million transaction during the 1970s; his success
    2-4  was due in great measure to his reputation as a man of his word;
    2-5  and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Named Realtor of the Year in 1979, he was very
    2-7  organized and aware of all aspects of his business; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, A compassionate man, Don Stafford was known for his
    2-9  generosity and fairness in dealing with others; his presence will
   2-10  be deeply missed; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-13  members of his family:  his wife, Floetta Stafford; his daughter,
   2-14  Valerie Stafford; his brother, C. Rex Stafford; his sisters,
   2-15  Carolyn Sue Covington and Mary Lee Booth; and his granddaughter,
   2-16  Amanda Joe; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
   2-18  family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
   2-19  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-20  Donald Ray "Don" Stafford.
