    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                        Mary Alice Pryor Clark
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
    1-6  of Austin in mourning the loss of one of the city's esteemed
    1-7  residents, Mary Alice Pryor Clark, who died February 17, 1995, at
    1-8  the age of 76; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Mary Alice was a beloved Austinite who was known
   1-10  for her marvelous sense of humor and for her devotion to her family
   1-11  and friends; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, One of six children, she was born December 5, 1918,
   1-13  into a widely recognized family of humorists; she graduated from
   1-14  Austin High School and attended The University of Texas; in 1935
   1-15  she won the title of Miss Austin; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, As a young woman, Mary Alice possessed a strong
   1-17  sense of adventure; she learned to fly airplanes and earned her
   1-18  pilot's license; she first married Frank Bryant who lost his life
   1-19  in an automobile accident in 1967; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, In 1968, Mary Alice married Charles W. Clark, who
   1-21  worked for the Austin American-Statesman for 40 years, and the
   1-22  couple enjoyed a long and happy life together; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Mrs. Clark was also a talented pianist who pursued
    2-1  many other interests; before her retirement in 1988, she worked as
    2-2  a legal secretary for the Clark, Thomas, Winters law firm for more
    2-3  than 25 years; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, A devout Christian who lived her faith in her daily
    2-5  life, Mrs. Clark was a dedicated volunteer at Saint John Neumann
    2-6  Catholic Church; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, She leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment
    2-8  that will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who were
    2-9  fortunate to know this gracious lady; now, therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-11  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-12  family of Mary Alice Pryor Clark:  her husband, Charles; her
   2-13  son and daughter-in-law, Bruce W. Bryant III and Marian Bryant;
   2-14  her daughters and son-in-law, Christy Ponton and Bruce Ponton
   2-15  and Mary G. DeWalt; her stepdaughter, Ginny Clark; her brothers,
   2-16  Richard "Cactus," Wally, Arthur, and Bill Pryor; her sister,
   2-17  Harriet Scotka; and her eight grandchildren; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
   2-19  family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
   2-20  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-21  Mary Alice Clark.
