    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize James Baston Grace on the momentous occasion of his
    1-4  75th birthday; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Born on February 28, 1920, in Nashville, Tennessee,
    1-6  he graduated from East Nashville High School in 1938 and attended
    1-7  Saint Ambrose College; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, He served his country honorably after he joined
    1-9  the United States Army Air Corps as a cadet pilot in April, 1942;
   1-10  he became first pilot of B-24 bombers in July, 1943; he then served
   1-11  in the 15th Air Force in Italy, flying bombers from January to
   1-12  April, 1944; he was transferred to the 8th Air Force in the
   1-13  United Kingdom and flew bombing missions over Germany and France
   1-14  until August, 1944; he was honorably discharged April 12, 1945; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Mr. Grace was present in India in the last days
   1-16  of the British raj and witnessed Indian Independence and the
   1-17  creation of Pakistan; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, He returned to Europe in 1959 and worked for
   1-19  Investors Overseas Services in Geneva, Switzerland; he served
   1-20  the company with distinction selling mutual funds; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, James Grace returned to Tennessee in March, 1965,
   1-22  to care for his widowed mother; they moved to Guadalajara, Mexico,
   1-23  in 1966, and lived there until February, 1982; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, He moved to Houston and has lived there since
    2-2  that time; this distinguished gentleman has been a volunteer for
    2-3  the AIDS Foundation in Houston since 1987; he also serves on the
    2-4  Board of the recently formed organization, Houston Gay Veterans;
    2-5  and
    2-6        WHEREAS, This remarkable man is truly deserving of the long
    2-7  life with which he has been blessed; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  74th Legislature, hereby declare James Baston Grace a treasured
   2-10  citizen of his town and state, wishing him many more years of
   2-11  health and happiness; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-13  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
