    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
    1-3  pleasure in recognizing Gaines County on the momentous occasion
    1-4  of its 90th anniversary celebration during the weekend of March 4
    1-5  and March 5, 1995; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The festivities will commence on Saturday with a big
    1-7  breakfast, followed by an official opening at the Gaines County
    1-8  Civic Building where nearly 50 booths are set up depicting the
    1-9  history of Gaines County; entertainment will be provided throughout
   1-10  the day by local school groups as well as a Bluegrass band; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Following church services on Sunday, residents and
   1-12  guests will gather in City Park for dinner on the grounds and
   1-13  fellowship with friends and neighbors; a program commemorating the
   1-14  contributions made to Gaines County by the pioneer families will be
   1-15  presented along with special music during the afternoon; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Gaines County is located on the southern High Plains
   1-17  of Northwest Texas on flat land that is rich in natural resources;
   1-18  the county was created from Bexar District in 1876 and was organized
   1-19  in 1905; it derives its name from one of the signers of the Texas
   1-20  Declaration of Independence who later became a member of the Senate
   1-21  of the 4th, 5th, and 6th Texas congresses, James Gaines; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, One of the state's leading oil-producing counties,
   1-23  Gaines County is also noted for its cotton and peanut production;
    2-1  and
    2-2        WHEREAS, The Gaines County Museum in Seminole, the county
    2-3  seat, portrays the lives of the brave pioneers who settled the area
    2-4  through artifacts and tells the history of the oil field discovery
    2-5  in 1935; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Gaines County's most valuable asset remains its
    2-7  citizens who are noted for their forthrightness, hard work, and
    2-8  generosity; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, A county of charm and beauty, Gaines County is
   2-10  treasured by all who call it their home; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  74th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the residents of
   2-13  Gaines County for a most memorable 90th anniversary; and, be it
   2-14  further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-16  Gaines County as a memento of this special occasion and as an
   2-17  expression of highest esteem from the Texas Senate.
