By: Sims S.R. No. 356 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Cleveland of Belton were recently 1-3 named the "Outstanding Citizens of the Year" by the Belton Chamber 1-4 of Commerce, and the Texas Senate is pleased to recognize this 1-5 distinguished couple for their invaluable contributions to their 1-6 community; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Known to the residents of Belton as Butch and Nita, 1-8 Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland are ambassadors for the chamber of commerce 1-9 and participate in numerous activities that benefit the city; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Their commitment of time and energy to every area of 1-11 chamber involvement is exemplary and has earned them the admiration 1-12 and gratitude of the people of Belton; and 1-13 WHEREAS, As chairman of the annual Fourth of July Parade, 1-14 Butch Cleveland, with the assistance of Nita, has been responsible 1-15 for producing a larger and more interesting parade every year; for 1-16 the past seven years, the couple has tirelessly worked untold hours 1-17 year round to make the parade one of the largest and best in the 1-18 country; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Whether welcoming new businesses to the community, 1-20 helping old businesses celebrate milestones, or planning and 1-21 completing a new project, Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland are excellent 1-22 representatives for the City of Belton; and 1-23 WHEREAS, They also find time to devote to other civic 2-1 activities, church work, and local politics; Butch acts as a 2-2 mentor for students in the Belton Independent School District 2-3 and Nita is active in the school partnership program; and 2-4 WHEREAS, A retired United States Army officer who served two 2-5 tours of duty in Vietnam, Butch was born in Heidelberg, Germany, 2-6 and came to the United States after his mother married an American 2-7 soldier; Nita is a native of White Sands, New Mexico, and came 2-8 to Belton as a small child with her parents; the two met when Nita 2-9 was working as a "soda jerk" and Butch was a mailman; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Mr. Cleveland is a kind, sympathetic leader who 2-11 maintains the highest standards in his personal life and is 2-12 complemented by Mrs. Cleveland who generates love and goodwill 2-13 to all she meets; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 74th Legislature, hereby recognize and extend congratulations 2-16 to Mr. and Mrs. H. H.
