    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
    1-3  recognizing Charles Powell, Mayor of Belton, who has been selected
    1-4  as the 1994 Man of the Year by the Belton Chamber of Commerce; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Mr. Powell is well known for his outstanding work
    1-6  as a civic and political leader and as a businessman and Christian;
    1-7  and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A highly respected individual who generously
    1-9  volunteers for a wide array of projects and organizations,
   1-10  Charley Powell was on the Board of Trustees for the Belton
   1-11  Independent School District for seven years and has served as
   1-12  President of the Belton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Belton
   1-13  Lions Club; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, He has also served on the Board of Trustees for the
   1-15  University of Mary Hardin-Baylor; on a project with the university,
   1-16  he led a delegation to Belton's "sister city" of Ebino, Japan, and
   1-17  was host to a Japanese delegation in Belton; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, He is serving his fourth year on the Belton City
   1-19  Council and is in his second term as Mayor; he helped to mold
   1-20  new links between Belton and Temple and Killeen which resulted
   1-21  in a joint venture for remodeling the traffic flow in the county;
   1-22  and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Through Charley Powell's first-rate leadership, the
    2-1  amenities of Belton have been preserved; while Belton offers the
    2-2  opportunities of a modern community, its natural beauty and rural
    2-3  charm have been retained; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, A wise and exemplary gentleman, a respected
    2-5  humanitarian, and a superior city administrator, Mr. Powell
    2-6  has made countless contributions to his community and to the
    2-7  State of Texas; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  74th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to Charles Powell
   2-10  for his numerous accomplishments and for the time and energy he
   2-11  has devoted to the betterment of the Belton community; and, be it
   2-12  further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-14  as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
