By: Turner S.R. No. 397 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 A. W. McCullin, Sr. 1-5 WHEREAS, The death of longtime Cameron resident 1-6 A. W. McCullin, Sr., on December 21, 1994, was greatly mourned 1-7 by his fellow residents; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born May 8, 1908, in Magda, Louisiana, he moved to 1-9 San Antonio with his family when he was 12 years old; he graduated 1-10 from Breckenridge High School in San Antonio and went to work for 1-11 Kent Middleton Refining Company as a chemist; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A. W. McCullin met his wife, Vivian, in Minerva, and 1-13 they were married on September 21, 1930; the couple moved to Luling, 1-14 where he was employed as a chemist until the Great Depression closed 1-15 the refineries; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Mr. McCullin worked part-time as a refinery chemist 1-17 and later used his knowledge to establish Mack's Oil Company in 1-18 Cameron; he was also a Phillips Petroleum products distributor for 1-19 40 years; and 1-20 WHEREAS, He served as mayor of Cameron from 1946 through 1947; 1-21 he was instrumental in establishing and later improving the city's 1-22 airport facilities; and 1-23 WHEREAS, This noted gentleman was a civic leader in Cameron 2-1 his entire life there; he was a 53-year member of the Cameron 2-2 Lions Club, devoting many years to supporting the Lions Crippled 2-3 Children's Camp at Kerrville; and 2-4 WHEREAS, He served for many years on the board of directors 2-5 of the Cameron Area Chamber of Commerce, later chaired the Cameron 2-6 Urban Renewal Committee, and was named executive director of that 2-7 committee in March, 1971; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Mr. McCullin was a devout Christian and longtime 2-9 member of the First United Methodist Church; he served his church 2-10 in many different capacities; he was an administrative board member 2-11 of the church, the church school superintendent, an associate lay 2-12 leader of the Texas conference, and a Sunday school teacher; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Known to his friends and business associates as Mack 2-14 or Mr. Mack, he was honored by the City of Cameron in 1979 with a 2-15 proclamation proclaiming him "Mr. Cameron"; in his entire association 2-16 with Cameron, he was always in favor of economic growth for the area, 2-17 and he emphasized his beliefs with action; and 2-18 WHEREAS, This respected gentleman's varied and notable 2-19 achievements contributed greatly to the development and progress 2-20 of his city and his state; he will be greatly missed; now, 2-21 therefore, be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-23 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-24 members of his family: his wife, Vivian McCullin; his son, 2-25 Albert McCullin, Jr.; and his four grandchildren, two 3-1 stepgrandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; and, be it 3-2 further 3-3 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-4 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy 3-5 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this 3-6 day, it do so in memory of A. W.
