    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                            James W. Dixon
    1-5        WHEREAS, The citizens of Giddings, Texas, mourned the
    1-6  passing of James W. Dixon, one of the city's most esteemed and
    1-7  well-known citizens, who died January 10, 1995, at the age of
    1-8  80; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A highly respected businessman, James Dixon
   1-10  owned and managed the Dixon Red and White Food Store in Giddings
   1-11  for 25 years; a gentleman of high principles, he had earned the
   1-12  respect and friendship of his customers; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The son of Marcus B. and Stella Westbrook Dixon,
   1-14  James was born in Dallas on January 25, 1914, and spent his
   1-15  early years in Lawton, Oklahoma; he moved to McDade, Texas,
   1-16  after the death of his mother and attended high school in Elgin
   1-17  where he graduated salutatorian of his class in 1932; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, He continued his studies at Houston Business
   1-19  College and was employed as a bookkeeper for Goodrich Tire Company
   1-20  in Houston; during World War II, James served his country as a
   1-21  First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, James Dixon and Bernice Winkler were married on
   1-23  July 20, 1944, and the devoted couple provided a loving home for
    2-1  their three children, Marcus, Janice, and Sarah; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, A man of strong convictions who was involved in
    2-3  the life of his community, Mr. Dixon was a past member of the
    2-4  Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club and was a director of
    2-5  Lee Memorial Hospital; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, He had a wide variety of interests and hobbies;
    2-7  he had owned an antique store since 1971 and was an avid coin
    2-8  collector; he loved good music, played golf, dominoes, and skat,
    2-9  and was a member of the Lincoln Skat Club; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, A faithful Christian layman, Mr. Dixon was a
   2-11  member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he had served as an elder
   2-12  and also sang in the choir; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, His wise counsel and sound judgment will be
   2-14  deeply missed and remembered with gratitude by his family and
   2-15  friends, and his memory will continue to live on in their
   2-16  hearts; now, therefore, be it
   2-17        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-18  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-19  family of James W. Dixon:  his wife, Bernice; his children,
   2-20  Marcus and Roma Dixon, Janice and Don Spitzenberger, and Sarah
   2-21  and Stuart Bremner; and his four grandchildren; and, be it
   2-22  further
   2-23        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
   2-24  for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-25  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
    3-1  do so in memory of James W. Dixon.
