    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  join the citizens of Fort Bend County in observing National Crime
    1-4  Victims' Rights Week, April 23 through April 29, 1995; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Observance of National Crime Victims' Rights Week
    1-6  is a united effort by individuals, organizations, and communities
    1-7  to offer support and assistance to innocent victims of crime and
    1-8  their families; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The week provides an opportunity for citizens
   1-10  to focus on the need for the development of public policies
   1-11  and legislation that will protect and restore victims' rights
   1-12  and promote public safety; data from the National Victim Center
   1-13  indicates that five out of six people will be victims of violent
   1-14  crime at least once in their lifetime; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The residents of Fort Bend County have planned
   1-16  a week of activities designed to increase community awareness of
   1-17  the importance of crime prevention and crime victims' rights;
   1-18  sponsored by the District Attorney's Office, the fourth annual
   1-19  "Running Against Violence" 5K Fun Run will kick off the week's
   1-20  events; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, While numerous people and organizations have
   1-22  generously contributed their time and energy to improving the
   1-23  treatment of crime victims in our nation, many changes and
    2-1  refinements in our judicial process are still needed; now,
    2-2  therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-4  74th Legislature, hereby recognize the week of April 23 through
    2-5  April 29, 1995, as National Crime Victims' Rights Week and
    2-6  express appreciation to the people of Fort Bend County for their
    2-7  efforts to help victims of violent crime and to highlight their
    2-8  needs; and be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-10  the citizens of Fort Bend County as an expression of esteem from
   2-11  the Texas Senate.
