    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride
    1-3  in recognizing Dr. Norma E. Porres, who has been selected as the
    1-4  recipient of a 1995 Women of Excellence Award; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Women of Excellence Awards are sponsored by the
    1-6  Young Women's Christian Association and are designed to honor women
    1-7  who have made exceptional contributions to the Lubbock community;
    1-8  and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Dr. Norma Porres is well known for her outstanding
   1-10  work as medical director of the Mental Retardation Program of the
   1-11  Lubbock Regional Mental Health/Mental Retardation Center; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Devoted to her profession and to helping others,
   1-13  Dr. Porres has dedicated her life to providing superior health
   1-14  care to the citizens of Lubbock; she recently was named the 1994
   1-15  Family Practice Physician of the Year by the Texas Academy of Family
   1-16  Physicians; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Dr. Porres has worked with numerous community
   1-18  organizations including the Well Baby Clinic, the Lubbock Cancer
   1-19  Society, the Lubbock Tuberculosis Association, and Head Start; she
   1-20  also has been an associate professor of family practice at Texas
   1-21  Tech School of Medicine and has served as an adviser for female
   1-22  medical students; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished lady, Dr. Porres
    2-1  is a highly respected leader in the Lubbock community, and through
    2-2  her exceptional talent and generosity, she touches the lives of
    2-3  many; now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-5  74th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Norma Porres on her superior
    2-6  achievements and extend congratulations to her on earning a 1995
    2-7  Women of Excellence Award; and, be it further
    2-8        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
    2-9  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
