    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride
    1-3  in recognizing Shaili M. Khandheria, who has been selected as the
    1-4  recipient of a 1995 Women of Excellence Award; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Women of Excellence Awards are sponsored by
    1-6  the Young Women's Christian Association and are designed to honor
    1-7  women who have made exceptional contributions to the Lubbock
    1-8  community; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Miss Khandheria is well known for her leadership
   1-10  ability which has been praised by her teachers and principal and
   1-11  citizens in the community; at Lubbock High School, where she has
   1-12  an overall grade point average of 4.56, she has been the president
   1-13  of the Latin Club, a representative for Senior Council, an officer
   1-14  in "Dare To Be Different," and a member of the National Honor
   1-15  Society, the orchestra, and the varsity tennis team; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for youth, she is a
   1-17  National Merit Semi-Finalist and participates in University
   1-18  Interscholastic League math and science competitions, Academic
   1-19  Decathlon, and Odyssey of the Mind; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Shaili has also been involved in community
   1-21  activities; she has been a volunteer for the University Medical
   1-22  Center, a counselor for TEENLINE, a member of the Indian Association
   1-23  of West Texas, and vice-president of the Jain Youth Group; in
    2-1  addition, she has one part-time job tutoring for Homework Hotline
    2-2  and another working for a local movie theater; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Shaili Khandheria is an exemplary and distinguished
    2-4  young woman who is a highly respected leader of youth in the Lubbock
    2-5  community, and through her exceptional talent and generosity, she
    2-6  touches the lives of many; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-8  74th Legislature, hereby commend Shaili M. Khandheria on her
    2-9  superior achievements and extend congratulations to her on earning
   2-10  a 1995 Women of Excellence Award; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
   2-12  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
