By: Montford S.R. No. 444 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great 1-3 pride in recognizing Betty L. Baker, who has been selected as the 1-4 recipient of a 1995 Women of Excellence Award; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The Women of Excellence Awards are sponsored by the 1-6 Young Women's Christian Association and are designed to honor women 1-7 who have made exceptional contributions to the Lubbock community; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Betty L. Baker is well known for her involvement in 1-9 the business world; she and her husband, James, are responsible for 1-10 the growth and development of the Baker Art Gallery which opened in 1-11 1963; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Through the years, she has been sought after for 1-13 speaking engagements regarding art, artists, and the art history 1-14 of Lubbock; and 1-15 WHEREAS, She is a charter member of the Women's Division of 1-16 the Chamber of Commerce, the Women's Council of the West Texas 1-17 Museum Association, the Red Cross, the Well Baby Clinic, and the 1-18 United Way of Lubbock; and 1-19 WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished lady, Betty L. Baker 1-20 is a highly respected leader in the Lubbock community, and through 1-21 her exceptional talent and generosity, she has touched the lives of 1-22 many; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 74th Legislature, hereby commend Betty L.
