1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Hays County Extension Service will sorely miss
1-3 the wisdom and expertise of Clifford L. Caskey who recently retired
1-4 after 18 years of superlative service; and
1-5 WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, this distinguished
1-6 gentleman has always given 100 percent of his time and attention
1-7 to his many duties; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Mr. Caskey began his career with the Texas A&M
1-9 Extension Service on July 1, 1963; he moved to Hays County after
1-10 he served in three other counties across the state; it feels like
1-11 home to him and his family now; and
1-12 WHEREAS, A noted horticulturalist, he looks back with fondness
1-13 on what he considers his most significant contribution to the
1-14 Hays County area--the adaptation of fruit trees to the local soil;
1-15 and
1-16 WHEREAS, A question from a resident caused him to experiment
1-17 with various peach tree varieties; by selecting new root stock,
1-18 Mr. Caskey was able to solve the iron deficiency problems associated
1-19 with growing peach trees in the red native soil of the area; and
1-20 WHEREAS, From there, state temperature zones were redrawn,
1-21 thus opening Hays County to the peach industry and enabling growers
1-22 to learn which varieties will flourish on their land; and
1-23 WHEREAS, As a result, many fruit and vegetable growers
2-1 throughout the area sell their produce in small farmers' markets,
2-2 and the residents of the county reap the benefits; and
2-3 WHEREAS, The varied and notable achievements of Mr. Caskey
2-4 have contributed immensely to the growth and progress of Hays County
2-5 and the State of Texas; and
2-6 WHEREAS, His future retirement plans include spending time
2-7 fishing and raising emus as well as tending his 600-tree orchard;
2-8 now, therefore, be it
2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10 74th Legislature, hereby commend Clifford L. Caskey for his
2-11 meritorious career of service and dedication to the people of
2-12 Hays County; and, be it further
2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
2-14 as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate with best
2-15 wishes for a rich and rewarding retirement.
