    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  joining the Adult Day Care Association of Texas in recognizing
    1-4  April 11, 1995, as Adult Day Care Day in Texas; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, There are currently 144 adult day care centers in
    1-6  Texas that provide valuable services to over 4,500 elderly and
    1-7  frail or functionally impaired adults; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Adult day care centers offer community-based
    1-9  programs that provide a variety of health, social, and support
   1-10  services in a protective setting during the daytime; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The centers provide much needed relief for families
   1-12  who are trying to care for Alzheimer's patients or victims of
   1-13  stroke and other illnesses; on-duty nurses in the centers provide
   1-14  vital supervision and medical support; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Adults attending the centers can spend their time
   1-16  watching television or participating in group activities such as
   1-17  sing-alongs, arts and crafts, and painting classes; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Currently there are 24 states in our nation with
   1-19  certification programs for adult day care and 25 have licensure
   1-20  requirements; while the centers have increased tenfold since 1978,
   1-21  the number of older persons in need is steadily growing and more
   1-22  day care centers are needed; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The adult day care centers in Texas are a welcome
    2-1  solution to the thousands of people who face the dilemma of needing
    2-2  to provide care for an adult but not wanting to place the adult in
    2-3  a nursing home; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, These centers offer individualized care in a social
    2-5  setting for those Texans who need it and provide a much needed
    2-6  respite for the caregivers; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-8  74th Legislature, hereby commend the adult day care centers in Texas
    2-9  for the invaluable services they provide and declare April 11, 1995,
   2-10  as Adult Day Care Day in Texas; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-12  Adult Day Care Association of Texas as an expression of high regard
   2-13  from the Texas Senate.
