No. 471 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly recognizes 1-3 the Ozona High School girls basketball team for winning the 1995 1-4 Class 2A State Basketball Championship at the Erwin Center in Austin 1-5 on March 4, 1995; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Before an enthusiastic crowd of 10,279 screaming 1-7 fans, the poised Lady Lions outscored the Cooper Bulldogettes 61 1-8 to 47 in a come-from-behind victory to capture their first ever 1-9 state basketball championship; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Trailing 27-21 at the half, the Lady Lions took 1-11 control of the game early in the third quarter and outscored 1-12 their opponents 40-20 in the last half; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Exhibiting exceptional composure for such a young 1-14 team, the Ozona Lions retained their concentration and played with 1-15 confidence throughout the second half without relinquishing their 1-16 lead or losing their momentum; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Their highly successful year is a tribute to the 1-18 girls' exceptional talent and the loyal enthusiasm they consistently 1-19 displayed; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Ending the season with a 34-2 record, the Lady Lions 1-21 devoted many hours to practicing the fundamental skills of the game 1-22 and exercised individual discipline which was apparent in their 1-23 remarkable showing against their opponents throughout the season; 2-1 and 2-2 WHEREAS, The Ozona Lady Lions and their superb coaching staff 2-3 are to be commended for their magnificent season that culminated 2-4 in the Class 2A State Basketball Championship: Bobbie Bryson, 2-5 Gloria Pena-Alfaro, Autumn McWilliams, Amber McWilliams, Julie Perez, 2-6 Amber Tarr, Heather Hall, Leigh Chandler, Tara Wilkins, Amy Laughlin, 2-7 Stormi Sessom, Shelly Sullivan, Connie Fielder, Megan Tambunga, 2-8 and Jessica Avila; coach, Dickie Faught; and assistant coaches, 2-9 Rodney Johnson and Deborah Ramon; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 74th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the Ozona Lady Lions 2-12 basketball team and their coaches for winning the Class 2A State 2-13 Basketball Championship and extend best wishes for continued 2-14 success in the years ahead; and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be presented to the 2-16 team as a memento of this momentous victory. 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 President of the Senate 2-19 I hereby certify that the above 2-20 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-21 on March 20, 1995. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Secretary of the Senate 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate
