    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to honor
    1-3  the team players, coaches, assistant coaches, and managers of East
    1-4  Central High School for winning the Class 5A Boys Basketball
    1-5  Championship recently in Austin; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Under the capable leadership of head coach
    1-7  Stan Bonewitz, and the team's dedicated assistant coaches, Jim Mead,
    1-8  Matt Oden, and Steve Ochor, the East Central High School squad
    1-9  enjoyed a perfect season, finishing with a 35-0 record; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The East Central High School Hornets won their
   1-11  victory over Dallas' Carter High School, 108 to 86; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Stanley Bonewitz, the coach's son, led East Central
   1-13  to its hard-won victory, scoring 36 points against Carter and being
   1-14  named the tournament's Most Valuable Player; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, East Central's highly successful year is a tribute
   1-16  to the boys' outstanding talent and the loyal team spirit they
   1-17  consistently displayed; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, The East Central Hornets set several 5A title game
   1-19  scoring records; East Central's scoring for the semifinals and
   1-20  finals was 215 points, breaking the old record of 211 points;
   1-21  Stanley Bonewitz's 78 points beat the 75 point record set by
   1-22  Dan Smith in 1961 for the two-game series; the championship game
   1-23  team high was 108 points, which ties a 1970 record; and the
    2-1  championship game high was 194, which broke the old record of 188;
    2-2  and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The Hornets basketball team's overwhelming success
    2-4  is attributable to the exceptional guidance of the coaching staff
    2-5  and to the consistent team play, pressure defense, and competitive
    2-6  spirit that characterized the overall performances of team members
    2-7  Chip Moxley, David White, Keith Rice, Stanley Bonewitz,
    2-8  Oliver House, Josh Barnes, Charles Jackson, Donte Mathis,
    2-9  Blake Sims, Eric Luke, Stacey Dudley, Ben Lakey, Jeremy Lear,
   2-10  Steve Shrum, Curtis Lundy, Marquieth Braziel, Jason Minica, and
   2-11  Matt Divin; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, These young athletes and their coaches and managers
   2-13  have brought honor to themselves, East Central High School, and
   2-14  their community; the Hornets are certainly deserving of the
   2-15  recognition bestowed on them; now, therefore, be it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-17  74th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the East Central High
   2-18  School Hornets boys basketball team and their coaches for winning
   2-19  the 1995 Class 5A Boys Basketball Championship and express its
   2-20  best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further
   2-21        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-22  team members and coaching staff as an expression of the high regard
   2-23  of the Texas Senate.
