    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, In 1993 the Texas Legislature conferred on the Texas
    1-3  Court of Criminal Appeals responsibility for overseeing judicial
    1-4  education and training for all the trial and appellate court judges
    1-5  in Texas; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Court of Criminal Appeals has proven to be
    1-7  vigorous, efficient, and insightful in administering this program;
    1-8  and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The trial and appellate courts of Texas carry a
   1-10  prodigious criminal caseload, which affects the welfare and safety
   1-11  of all Texans, and the Court of Criminal Appeals understands and
   1-12  responds to the training needs of those courts; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The justice of the peace courts are trial courts
   1-14  that are highly accessible to individual Texans because of their
   1-15  broad civil and criminal jurisdiction combined with procedural
   1-16  informality; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The Justices of the Peace and Constables Association
   1-18  of Texas, Inc., represents the interests of more than 800 justices
   1-19  of the peace and their court personnel, and more than 800 constables
   1-20  and their deputy constables, who support the continuation of judicial
   1-21  education under the management of the Court of Criminal Appeals; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Texas justices of the peace are currently required
   1-23  to receive 20 hours of judicial education annually, in accordance
    2-1  with the Rules of Judicial Education promulgated by the Court of
    2-2  Criminal Appeals; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Texas constables, as officers of the court, are
    2-4  required to receive 20 hours of training in civil process annually;
    2-5  now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, recognize the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals
    2-8  for its outstanding support for and assistance to the courts of
    2-9  Texas; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the Court of Criminal Appeals be commended for
   2-11  its excellent administration of the judicial education and training
   2-12  program.
