No. 495 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing Forest Smith who recently retired after 10 years of 1-4 loyal service as a municipal judge in Angleton; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A retiree of Dow Chemical Company, Forest Smith 1-6 became a municipal judge in 1985; in municipal court, he presided 1-7 over a variety of Class C misdemeanor cases such as traffic 1-8 tickets, family violence, truancy, and violations of city 1-9 ordinances, including the juvenile curfew; and 1-10 WHEREAS, During his tenure, Judge Smith was a compassionate, 1-11 fair-minded, and impartial judge who consistently upheld the best 1-12 of legal traditions; and 1-13 WHEREAS, He enjoyed working with the residents of Angleton 1-14 and helping the city's youths and found the most challenging part 1-15 of his job was dealing with juvenile and family violence; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A talented and highly respected individual, 1-17 Judge Smith has been prominent in city and county affairs 1-18 throughout his life and is well known for his leadership and 1-19 sound judgment; and 1-20 WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman, 1-21 Judge Smith is beloved and respected by his colleagues, the 1-22 Angleton Police Department, and people of the legal community, 1-23 and his presence in municipal court will be greatly missed; now, 2-1 therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-3 74th Legislature, hereby commend Forest Smith for his exceptional 2-4 public service and extend to him best wishes for the retirement 2-5 years ahead; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-7 for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-8 ______________________________________ 2-9 President of the Senate 2-10 I hereby certify that the above 2-11 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-12 on March 21, 1995. 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Secretary of the Senate 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Member, Texas Senate
